12 days of Scriba(mas): What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Scriba HQ is well known for getting into the Christmas spirit, but since the team has grown quite a bit over the past 18 months, we thought we’d find out a little more about what makes the festive season special for them.

Today, we’ve asked each colleague: “What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Unlike the animated discussions yesterday’s film-related question brought, this one helped to shape the Scriba Spotify playlist for the coming weeks…

Although it was a tough decision – one that Luci Ownsworth couldn’t even make – Louise Jaggar, Hayley Paterson and Amy Lloyd both went for the sing-along-classic ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ by Mariah Carey.

Hayley added: “Never seem to hit that high note though, no matter how hard I try.” You’d better believe it too, as it’s a track we’ve listened to no less than five times per day with Hayley and Louise on backing vocals…. and we’re only halfway to Christmas.

Speaking of sing-a-longs, one we were all on board with is Paige Catton’s choice, ‘Fairy-tale of New York’ by The Pogues – although none of us can seem to belt out an entire verse, no matter how hard we try.

Bev Mallinson went for Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ because of the memories it evokes of her dad, while daughter Katie said: “Toughest question ever – I love music so this is a difficult call. It’s probably the only time of year I enjoy ‘cheesy’ tunes, and although I’m tired of all the festive favourites come Boxing Day, I do love it when they start being played on the radio again.”

Sitting right in front of the office hi-fi – and listening to Heart Xmas on repeat – Jenny Gibson is, unfortunately, the one member of the team who isn’t a massive Christmas songs enthusiast. “There are too few on too heavy a rotation at this time of year. If I had to choose though, ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! Is pretty hard to beat, isn’t it?”

Agreeing yet again, Eleanor Cropper and Ruth Harrison-Davies went away from the favourites and chose the hymn, ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’, with Ruth explaining the rationale behind her choice: “Everyone knows I’m a massive member of the #GodSquad, and part of the parish choir, so I had to pick a hymn for this one…. It’s such a beautiful song to sing and sounds fantastic in church during our carol service.”

The Scriba PR office will be closed from Friday 20 December through to Thursday 2nd January – when we’ll all come back armed with leftovers for lunch and a mountain of emails in our inbox. If you need anything (urgently) while we’re away, please give the boss lady a call on 07751 615 110 (but be warned, she may be in a food coma).
