Ucan sought technical PR expertise from Scriba to help raise profile

When Ucan Recycling won the top accolade of the Winner of Winners award at the Bradford Means Business event in June 2016, directors Rob and Nicky Seal decided that it was the right time for some PR, to help further raise the company’s profile.

The Ucan team, based in Wkye, specialise in the reuse and recycling of redundant IT equipment, and have proven that a strong social agenda can benefit the environment, the local community, and the financial robustness of a business.

Faced with the task of finding the right team to get their story across, they knew that this was a job which needed execution by a technical PR specialist.

Rob says:

We chose Scriba to provide our PR as the team have a great knowledge of the recycling sector. We already knew of Katie from several years ago, and it was important to us to find somebody with waste experience. With a client base which included UNTHA UK, we knew Scriba would be right for the job.

Scriba therefore set to work to devise a communications strategy that would fulfil Ucan’s requirements – raising their profile, opening doors in the public sector, particularly on a regional basis with local authorities; and obtaining more work for the team.

Scriba carried out a successful campaign over a 3-month period, which included:

  • Key coverage in industry-specific publications, which was a target area for Ucan. These included features in Materials Handling World, Waste Management World and Materials Recycling World, which showcased exactly what Ucan does to help get the unemployed back into the world of work, whilst benefitting the environment too.
  • Profile-raising across regional media, including business publications. These included Q&A’s, news of appointments and a business press release, to give regional readers a behind the scenes insight into Ucan.
  • Highlighting the training and development model that Ucan has worked hard to establish, within national HR titles such as HR News.

Following the campaign, Ucan saw an increase in enquiries at their headquarters, and agreed that Scriba fully satisfied the brief that was provided at the outset.

Rob concludes:

We always enjoy working with Scriba as their proactive approach and patience pays dividends in terms of generating awareness. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
